Unlike you, I thought the best thing with the Riddler was him unmasked. Remember how the drill sergeant in Full Metal Jacket said that Lee Harvey Oswald proved what one motivated with a rifle could do? I see the unmasked Riddler like that: it shows what one motivated guy can do, even the most unassuming ones. And that, I think, is the core, chilling message in the movie.
